E-banking: popular with friend and foe
E-banking is very popular in Switzerland, and its use among bank customers is growing constantly. This also makes online banking a popular target for malicious attacks using phishing, pharming and other such tactics. Studies have shown that 7.92 million attempts at phishing took place every day around the world in the second half of 2005, leading to a total loss of US-$2.75 billion in the United States alone. Our new e-banking Security Solutions (eSS) service helps you to effectively counter such attacks.
Phishing, Pharming and the like
The security risks involved in e-banking are many times greater for operator and cardholder than in transactions using credit or debit cards. Which is what makes online banking all the more attractive for fraudsters. The best known type of attack is phishing, where criminals use counterfeit e-mails and fake websites to entice the cardholder into revealing personal account details or online banking access information, like PIN or TAN codes. And this is just the start. The fraudsters are becoming ever more ingenious, their techniques more sophisticated, and their appearance more professional. Ultimately, it is your responsibility as a bank to stop these criminals. With our new solution, we are offering you effective support.
MasterCard sets the standard
MasterCard International has developed the chip authentication program (CAP), a challenge/response procedure based on the proven EMV chip technology, and specified this as its international standard. With this in mind, Telekurs Card Solutions has already evaluated suppliers of personal card readers (PCR) and authentication server solutions. Various financial institutions, including Rabobank in the Netherlands, have already integrated CAP into their security solutions.
Telekurs Card Solutions delivers the answer
Our new e-banking Security Solutions (eSS) service is based on the Maestro card, a PCR and central data authentication by the Telekurs host. Together with the mass-market-capable CAP standard, the modular solution from Telekurs Card Solutions means that attempts to defraud are destined to fail. The perpetrator will be denied access to the online banking system – even if the fraudster hacks into an e-banking session using a so-called man-in-the-middle scheme to manipulate payment data, he can be stopped by our new security solutions. To conclude the e-banking session securely, the cardholder has to sign for the transaction that he wants to conduct using his Maestro card and a personal card reader. This is the only way of ensuring that such attacks will fail and the e-banking customer remains protected through to the end of the e-banking session. |
